UPDATE: Check out our new 2023 Best Cities to Live in the U.S. list.

#72. Kalamazoo

In the southwest region of Michigan is Kalamazoo, home to Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College that give K-Zoo a college-town feel. Residents can choose between 22 distinct neighborhoods, and the city is a big player in the American craft beer movement. Nearly a dozen microbreweries do brisk business, including Gonzo’s Biggdogg Brewing Co. It all started here 30 years ago with Bell’s Brewery. One of the most well-regarded breweries in the Midwest and beyond, its Two-Hearted ale is a staple of a well-stocked cooler, and the fish-head label is a familiar sight on taps everywhere.
