Joe Rada

Birmingham-based writer/editor Joe Rada honed his reporting skills at newspapers in West Virginia and Washington before settling into a 20-year stint as a travel writer and feature editor at Southern Living magazine.

As enlightening as his journalism career has been, Joe believes he learned as much if not more about people and life through various stints as a street musician, baker, ship painter, cannery worker, delivery driver, lifeguard and all-around adventurer.

Now a freelancer (joerada.com), he enjoys profiling artists, entrepreneurs, chefs, community leaders, outdoor enthusiasts and others. An avid canoe paddler, motorcycle rider, home-brewer, Habitat for Humanity volunteer, and baker, Joe also writes and photographs for the Bakery Boy Blog, a website all about bakeries.
