Moving to Licking County, Ohio? Consider These 6 Communities

Licking County was named for the many salt licks that were present when the county was formed in 1808, and today, the region has come a long way, evolving into a place known for both arts and innovation.

If you’re thinking about moving to Licking County, you’ve got plenty of great choices to call home. Here are some highlights about six of the wonderful communities in this thriving region nestled just east of Columbus.

1. Newark 

POPULATION: 50,763 

As the county seat, Newark’s historic downtown square has undergone a revitalization that includes the development of a robust mixed-use district. Newark has a strong reputation for embracing diversity, with 100+ minority-owned businesses experiencing success. 

2. Granville 

POPULATION: 5,561 

This quaint community was founded in 1805, and historic architecture adds charm to a vibrant and growing downtown. Home to Denison University, the median age in Granville is 22 years old. 

3. Heath 

POPULATION: 10,621 

The city serves as Licking County’s principal commercial corridor and is home to major manufacturers. Plus, Newark Earthworks, which was designated as one of the nation’s newest UNESCO World Heritage sites, is located in Heath. 

4. Hebron 

POPULATION: 2,268 

Hebron is bordered by Buckeye Lake and houses more than 50 companies, including manufacturers, commercial distributors and corporate headquarters. The village only measures 3 square miles, yet Hebron is home to about 1,000 households. 

5. Johnstown 

POPULATION: 5,278 

Located on the western side of the county, Johnstown is just minutes away from the bustling Columbus region but offers a small-town vibe with a variety of suburban housing options. The downtown is home to quaint shops and eateries. 

6. Pataskala 

POPULATION: 18,229 

The city was ranked as one of the Five Fastest Growing Communities in Central Ohio by Columbus Business First. City attractions include The Sterling Theater and Lynd Fruit Farm.
