Buckeye Scenic Trail
The 5.5-mile asphalt paved pathway offers trailheads east of Hebron and in Heath, where it connects to the extensive Heath trail system. The serene pathway features wood bridges, historic markers and long stretches of farmland.
Ohio Canal Greenway
Hebron is home to this 2.7-mile pathway with trailheads at Canal Park and just west of Buckeye Lake. The surfaces are cinder, grass and gravel, so the greenway is great for mountain bikers and horseback riders. Fishing is available off a wooden covered bridge.
Panhandle Trail
The paved Panhandle Trail starts just east of downtown Newark and travels into Hanover Township, spanning almost 10 miles. Several road spurs are available for bicyclists to access along the way, including a popular one that leads to Blackhand Gorge Trail.

T.J. Evans Trail
This 14.3-mile asphalt rail trail spans from Newark to Alexandria and Granville, then into Johnstown. Activities include walking, bicycling, inline skating and cross-country skiing, and there are fishing opportunities along the path as well.
Blackhand Gorge Trail
This all-asphalt expanse stretches 4 miles and is rated among the most scenic in Ohio, with gentle uphill and downhill grades that follow along the Licking River. Blackhand is also a popular wintertime destination for Licking County residents who enjoy cross-country skiing.
Infirmary Mound Park
Infirmary Mound Park is located on the southern edge of Granville and features a 4.2 mile loop trail that takes about 1.5 hours to hike. The family-friendly path runs through deep woods and around a ravine and creek.
Lobdell Reserve
Many Licking County residents prefer to do their exercising along Lobdell Reserve Trail, which has pleasing sights like a stream, woodlands, meadows and cliffs with scenic views. There are 8 miles of trails ranging from easy to moderately challenging, making Lobdell ideal for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking.
Riverview Preserve
More experienced hikers often prefer Riverview Preserve because it has 3 miles of rough trails that are perfect for adventurers. The trail system follows the Licking River through woodlands and wetland habitats, so expect to see species of wildflowers and wildlife.
Morris Woods State Nature Preserve
In Johnstown, Morris Woods has 1.5 miles of trail highlighted with a beech-maple forest, small lake, wetland areas, wildflowers and wildlife. Hikers are requested to stay on marked paths because of the dense nature.
