Rutherford County Provides Residents With High-Quality Health Care
Exciting expansions and innovative providers, along with a solid base of nationally recognized medical facilities, ensure that residents have an extensive selection of outstanding choices when it comes to health care in Rutherford County.
Two full-service hospitals – Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro and TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna – offer 24/7 emergency departments and advanced specialty services.
Joining them are the Alvin C. York Veterans’ Administration Medical Center, and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital Vanderbilt Surgery and Clinics Murfreesboro. TrustPoint Hospital is available for inpatient behavioral health treatment and physical rehabilitation needs. The facility has recently expanded its care options by offering an intensive outpatient program for children and adolescents, ages 10 to 17, whose lives have been disrupted by mental health issues.
Murfreesboro Medical Clinic at Westlawn, set to open summer 2023 in the Blackman community, is the clinic’s eighth location. In addition to primary care physicians in the internal/family medicine and pediatrics departments, the 75,000-square-foot Westlawn location on Shores Road near Veterans Parkway will include specialists in gastroenterology, rheumatology and otolaryngology (ears, nose and throat) as well as laboratory and radiology services, plus the relocation of the endoscopy services from its existing outpatient surgery center.
“As Rutherford County has grown, MMC has expanded into local communities to allow its patients more convenient access to high quality, affordable health care closer to where they live,” says CEO Joey Peay. “This new location, as well as others that are in the planning stages, will allow for more of the same and provide more access to specialty care.”
Outstanding Health Care in Rutherford County
A first in Tennessee, Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Westlawn, a neighborhood hospital, opened in spring 2023. The campus is a satellite facility of Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford and is 4.9 miles from the main hospital in Murfreesboro.
It is home to eight private in-patient medical beds, a physician-led, 24/7 emergency department with eight treatment rooms, diagnostic imaging, laboratory and telemedicine services designed to deliver timely care. Clinical office space for primary and specialty care physicians to conveniently see patients is located on the second floor.
Brittney Urso, who earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Middle Tennessee State University, is the hospital administrator for the new Westlawn facility.
More growth is on the horizon at Ascension as construction is set to begin this year on a $60 million, multistory, multispecialty medical office building to house the new Ascension Saint Thomas Cancer Center, in partnership with Tennessee Oncology on the Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford campus.
The center will offer high-level clinical medicine combining surgical, medical and radiation cancer care specialists together at one location.
